According to World Health Organization, cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women, with around 660 000 new cases in 2022. In the same year, about 94% of the 350 000 deaths caused by cervical cancer occurred in low- and middle-income countries. Absence or low effectiveness of prevention programs are the main causes of cervical cancer related morbidity and mortality in these countries.
Adjah Cancer Support Ghana will provide free cervical cancer screening to thousands of women between 21-65 years of age in Ghana. Cervical cancer can be cured if diagnosed and treated at an early stage of disease.
The long-term goal of the program is to broaden the screening capability at national level, including distant municipalities, where women have limited access to health services.
