CHANGING LIVES

By PATRICK MWESHI - MARKETING, July 17, 2008 06:26 PM

I am Mwiza Njobvu from Zambia
I was born on the 19th of May, 1989 and completed secondary education in 2007.
I play basketball and I enjoy doing that.Go Sisters has helped me realize that girls and boys are equal and I have discovered that I can do things that I thought were only done by boys. Go Sisters has helped me learn how to use my spare time wisely and how to fight peer pressure, Go Sisters has also taught me how to change the lives of others.
From the time I joined Go Sisters, I have won confidence, I have made friends, trained as Youth peer leader whose acquired knowledge is meant for the benefit of all.

EduSport through Go Sisters has helped me complete my secondary education and I am working at St. Patrick’s Girls School where I am running Sports programmes for a grade 6 class. I have formed a basketball team and I am about to form a Soccer team. My girls enjoy Sport and all our EduSport programmes.
Many thanks to all the people that have helped me, especially those that donate towards Go Sisters, the committed Peer Leaders in Zambia and the Great EduSport Family.
Indeed this project aims to contribute to the achievement of the MDG3 in Zambia - promoting gender equity and empowerment - by increasing the number of us girls in the target communities adopting leadership roles at the community and district levels.
I stand to inspire and lead a number of girls. Lets Go Sisters, we can do it.

GO SISTERS NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

By PATRICK MWESHI - MARKETING OFFICER, October 04, 2007 04:58 PM

This years annual Go Sisters National Tournament was held from 29th through to 30th of September, 2007.
This years event was a success and brought evidence of progress being made by girls to the public. Unlike in the past four (4) National tournaments, this years event had Basketball, Netball and Football with workshops running alongside these exciting games.
In additon, the tournament had no hired referee or umpire but instead made use of the Go Sisters trained Officials and most of these came from the Cebtral Action Team.

This years theme was " Girls Arise, fight Child Abuse and HIV/AIDS".

The tournament had 29 girls teams coming from Lusaka and far places like Kafue, Mufulira, Choma and livingstone.

In Basketball, 120 girls took part (below the age of 19 ), and in Basketball 50 girls took part ( also below the age of 19) while in football about 206 girls below the age of 16 took part. A lot of talent was noticed by Professional clubs that were present and its hoped that some girls will be picked to play in these clubs.

Participants walked away with school materials like books, erasers and Ball points. Apart from these, all teams got balls while winners got balls and a set of jersseys each.
Lets Go Sisters, we can do it!

Go Sisters-We can do it!

By Patrick Mweshi - Marketing Officer, June 27, 2007 02:07 PM

GO SISTERS INDUCTION COURSE

DATE: 28TH April-1ST MAY, 2007

Go Sisters is a Girls Empowerment through Sport programme run by EduSport Foundation in Zambia.
In preparation for this year’s annual Go Sisters Sports festival, 32 female youth peer leaders were trained in an intensive workshop from the 28th of April through to 1st may in one of the EduSport targeted communities of Lusaka called Chawama.
These are the girls that will go round training many others in the surrounding communities as they prepare themselves for the Go Sisters tournament scheduled for September, 2007 in Lusaka.

FIELDS OF TRAINING
1.   Leadership-
Under leadership, participants were imparted with knowledge on the roles of a peer leader, qualities of a leader, leadership styles, grooming leaders and conducting movement games.
2.   Event management-Participants were introduced to how EduSport and Go Sisters events look, planning and organising events, promoting events, fundraising, and proposal writing. This is considered to be a very necessary element under our training as a way of maintaining the spirit of EduSport in our events.
3.   1st AID-
In partnership with the Red Cross Society, basic knowledge on 1st AID was given to participants which is very cardinal in organising community Sports.
4.   Sports Specific Basic rules-With help from the Zambia Basketball Association, Zambia Volleyball Association, Chawama Netball Club, and two Soccer players from Scotland (Fiona and Derek) basic rules and coaching tips were given on Soccer, Netball, Volleyball, and .Basketball.

OUTCOMES/RESULTS

With the Knowledge these participants got from the workshop, girls have started training their friends in different communities as they prepare for this year’s big event. Besides these girls have offered themselves to give physical education activities in schools that are interested in our programmes especially community schools. Mostly our movement games shall be used in these weekly two hour sports sessions(movement games are simple games designed to teach while playing-they carry life serving messages on one side with a sport skill on the other side).

CENTRAL ACTION TEAM FC
After this training, girls felt it necessary to form a main girl’s team which all girls will be looking up to. This team was formed and entered in the Zambia Women Soccer league. Currently, girls that act as role models in their various committees are on this team.
