FORT COLLINS, CO (Janurary 9, 2004) — Hewlett-Packard employees in the U.S. donated about $ 133,000 to help people around the world in a program called GlobalGiving. About 50 employees in the Fort Collins area donated more than $ 10,000 of that total.

The donations will be used for a variety of aid projects, including training female teachers in Afghanistan, financing female entrepreneurs in Zimbabwe and building a school for AIDS orphans in Uganda. GlobalGiving is HP's donation program that helps employees show their support for international causes. After a successful pilot program in 2002, HP decided to expand the program in 2003.

"At HP, we are committed to providing innovative and positive ways for our employees to engage with the communities where we live and do business," Debra Dunn, HP's senior vice president of corporate affairs. "Through GlobalGiving, our employees are able to support international programs as easily as they would local community causes."

Dennis Whittle, GlobalGiving's CEO and co-founder, said HP is a leader in employee giving. "In this year's campaign, HP employees worked with us to support about 150 projects around the globe," Whittle said. "HP is showing tremendous leadership by making this new model of giving available to its employees."
